Airway & Respiratory Management

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Overdose · L1

How this exercise works

Sort airway tools and ventilation strategies into the correct management categories — basic adjuncts, advanced airways, BVM, CPAP, and rescue techniques.

Fundamental concept

Categorizing basic adjuncts, supraglottic devices, intubation, BVM, CPAP, and rescue techniques for failing ventilation.

Read: Advanced Airway & Respiratory Management →

Scenario

Opioid overdose reversed with naloxone but somnolent with obstructive respirations and SpO₂ 88%.

Sort each intervention into the correct category.

Items

Endotracheal intubation if cannot maintain airway
Supraglottic airway if BVM difficult
Recovery position if breathing adequate and protected
EtCO₂ monitoring during assisted ventilation
CPAP for obstructive sleep apnea in somnolent overdose
BVM ventilations until protective reflexes return
Repeat naloxone titrated to respirations not full reversal
Jaw thrust and NPA/OPA adjunct
