Inhalation Injury — Structure Fire · L1

How this exercise works

Sort airway tools and ventilation strategies into the correct management categories — basic adjuncts, advanced airways, BVM, CPAP, and rescue techniques.

Fundamental concept

Categorizing basic adjuncts, supraglottic devices, intubation, BVM, CPAP, and rescue techniques for failing ventilation.

Scenario

House fire victim: hoarseness, singed nasal hairs, soot in nares, stridor at rest.

Sort each intervention into the correct category.

Items

Avoid CPAP with upper airway burns and stridor
Early RSI before airway edema progresses
Suction of soot and secretions
Mechanical ventilation post-intubation
Cricothyrotomy backup if oral airway fails
BVM with PEEP valve if available pre-intubation
Small-tube ETT if significant edema anticipated
100% oxygen; consider C-spine if trauma mechanism
