How this exercise works

Sort airway tools and ventilation strategies into the correct management categories, basic adjuncts, advanced airways, BVM, CPAP, and rescue techniques.

Fundamental concept

Categorizing basic adjuncts, supraglottic devices, intubation, BVM, CPAP, and rescue techniques for failing ventilation.

Scenario

COPD exacerbation: RR 28, SpO₂ 88% on 2 L NC, somnolent, EtCO₂ 62 mmHg.

Sort each intervention into the correct category.

Items

Titrate oxygen to SpO₂ 88-92%
BiPAP/CPAP per protocol with monitoring
Endotracheal intubation if NIV fails or arrest imminent
EtCO₂ monitoring to guide ventilation rate
Bronchodilator nebulization
Surgical airway only in CICO scenario
Avoid NRB 15 L/min targeting 100% SpO₂
NPA if obtunded but ventilations needed
